Fab Lab El Paso is proud to announce this month’s installment of the LULAC Latina LEADS Program featuring a hands-on workshop led by multidisciplinary artist Jane Terrazas. We will be exploring integrated textiles with circuits and electronics to create our own interactive works of art. Limited quantities of material kits are available free of charge to confirmed participants for pickup. Participation limited to 6, 7, and 8th graders.
Jane Terrazas studied graphic design at the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara, has participated in residencies and studied at the IFCA in Yokohama Japan, the Arte Taller Estudio Arquitectura in Mexico City, Textile Arts Center in Brooklyn, and is now completing her masters degree at the Winchester School of Art in the United Kingdom. Her work investigates textile objects as social metaphors, by using electro sensitive materials, digital textiles, sustainable fabrics and natural pigmentation processes to reflect on phenomena such as violence, environmental racism, earth democracy and ecofeminism as interconnected elements in the geopolitical context of the US/Mexico border. Jane has exhibited work, been a presenter, and given workshops in galleries and schools around the world. In 2014 Jane co-founded and served as curator to one of the first contemporary art galleries in Ciudad Juarez. She also co-founded the non profit Ni En More, a social fashion and innovation design program that promotes economic empowerment for women who live in vulnerable conditions in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua.
